University of New Hampshire, Durham, New Hampshire
+ Project Information
Woodburn & Company provided landscape architectural design services to the University of New Hampshire for the redesign of the Thompson Hall Flagpole Plaza. The plaza, which serves as an important landmark on campus, had fallen into disrepair over the years, and most recently, the flagpole suffered significant damage in a wind storm. Woodburn & Company prepared three design alternatives, along with budget studies. The design selected included an inscribed granite retaining wall, and a plaza surrounding the flagpole. The plaza, overlooking Main Street, serves as a gathering space for students, as well as a site for flagpole ceremonies. The space restores the presence of Thomson Hall along Main Street, once again showcasing one of the University’s flagship buildings.
